Tyler Bates score to Rob Zombie's Halloween now available...

Much Controversy plagued the production of Director/Musician Rob Zombie's "re-imagining" of John Carpenters 1978 slasher prototype "Halloween". Most notably livid fans picketed the location shoot, conspicuously angry with the possibility that their favourite movie of all time would be destroyed by another remake plus growing rumours that Rob Zombie would not be using the infamous theme music composed by Carpenter back in '78 only hampered it even more. This commanding melody is so identifiable with modern cinema it has become tantamount to John William's "Jaws" theme or Bernard Hermann's striking string composition for Alfred Hitchcock's shower scene in "Psycho".

All of the fans believed it was the inclusion of Carpenters score that made "Halloween" so outstanding and memorable when thrown among the hundreds of copy-cat slasher movies it spawned and bad enough to remake this classic of the genre but to remake it without the theme, that was reprehensible.

It was during all this babble that a track was leaked to the Internet called "Halloween 2007", a variation on the theme composed by musician Tyler Bates and according to many Internet rumours this rendition was used to aid Rob Zombie's initial pitch of his vision for the remake to Dimension Films. It was around this time when fans began to sit up and take notice, many believing that director Rob Zombie just might make the movie that would save the franchise from hell.

Here was a variation of the theme restructured unlike any other modification before it. Accompanying the alarming piano rift is wailing female vocals with violent, experimental instrumentation replacing the originals primitive but effective baseline. The legion of fans grew excited at the prospect of a score equal to the original and upon the films release in August 2007 to reasonable reviews and good box office the fans praised Tyler Bates innovative dark and broody take on John Carpenters classic melodies. Not since "Halloween" of 1978 had a score in the series conjured up such a brutal air of menace and still manage to retain emotional undertones.

But apart from only two tracks appearing on the "Official Soundtrack" one of which was the already available "Halloween 2007"(The remainder of the CD was filled with dialogue snippets from the movie and famous Rock Songs from the 70's and 80's featured throughout the film) Tyler Bate's wonderful score had remained unavailable outside of the film itself.

Barely a word was mentioned about a separate score CD, but fans lived in hope that some day soon it would be a part of their already vast collection of scores used to accompany the franchises past sequels. However for the first time in the history of the series a score CD was not released. Just recently Tyler Bates himself sent out some CD copies of his entire evocative score for promotional use only and it's available here to download in a .rar file.

Listen and judge for yourself why the fans are hailing the score the best since John Carpenters original.
